Where Is the Planned Quarry?
Georgia Stone Products in Adairsville is seeking to have 715-acre rezoned to M1 (mining) to open a construction aggregate limestone quarry to supply construction materials. The proposed site borders farms, historic Mosteller Mill, and other residential properties. The proposed site starts where the Vulcan plant ends. Located east of I-75 and south of HWY 140. The nearest address is 1586 Hwy 140 .

-
Health Hazards
The dust created by gravel quarries is linked to a list of incurable, deadly health effects and diseases. Any residents within five miles of the proposed location are at risk of serious lifelong health problems.
-
Water Contamination
Local wells and springs are at risk of contamination and destruction. Storm runoff and blasting from the quarry allows dangerous chemicals to enter your water supply.
-
Dangerous Traffic
An estimated 365 trucks will be in and out of the quarry daily using HWY 140. This will impact surrounding roads, increasing industrial traffic and making our roads more dangerous.
-
Property Value
The radius of effected properties stretches beyond those sharing a property line. Studies have shown properties within a five-mile radius of a new quarry lose up to 20% of their market value.
-
Preserve History and Wildlife
Use of dangerous explosives can compromise the structure of protected historical sites. These blasts can also collapse surrounding caves, putting endangered species at risk.
