Truck Traffic

A new quarry brings new gravel trucks. These additional trucks will increase risk of traffic, accidents, and traffic related death.

Traffic Volume & Affected Roads

The proposed quarry will bring an estimated 364 gravel trucks DAILY with it. These trucks will be concentrated on GA Hwy 140, but will affect additional roads in the area. Below are some of the roads and highways that will be most affected. There are undoubtedly more roads not listed that will show the affects of the quarry.

  • GA HWY 140

  • HWY 41

  • BUNCH MOUNTAIN ROAD

  • SINIARD RD

  • GREEN LOOP RD

TOTAL TRAFFIC VOLUME DETERMINATION - (182 entering/182 exiting daily) do the math : 480 minutes in 8 hours - that is almost a truck every minute

  • 182 Tandem axle trucks

  • 45 truck - trailer

  • 52 concrete mixer

  • 54 passenger vehicles

  • 31 trucks

Our roadways are already a hazard for the typical driver. Affected roadways are almost all winding, two-lane roads with extremely limited visibility in both directions. Gravel trucks are up to 20 times heavier than the average SUV. Risk of collision is already high on these small, winding roads.

With the increase in gravel trucks from this proposed quarry, there will likely be an increase in collision frequency and severity.

In addition to risk, there is also the added concern of longer travel times. Clogging small roads with slow-moving gravel trucks increases commute times. Emergency Vehicle response times will increase due to these heavier traffic patterns.
